Review of 1st gigs form the level 3 year ones.

Pod 3, 'Seven nation army': This performance started off with an acoustic version of the song which really allowed the singer to show off her vocal skills. while the performance started as an acoustic version (which could be argued it went on too long and the audience became bored), it then changed and distorted guitars came in like the original to rock it up. At this point the guitarist started making mistakes with playing the main riff and solo. For the most part the band was all in time with the singer, however it felt a bit disconnected with the sudden change from acousitc to loud guitars, for me I felt it should have stayed with the acoustic verison as it set the mood for the song, and changin it just threw me off. It can be argued that thiswas actually a positive due to the audience not knowing what to expect.

ED1A, Pod 3 'Supermassive Black hole'

The instrumentation for this song was very solid, despite a few mistakes from the guitarist here and there, he made a great job at hiding it as I didn't really notice at first. The same happened for the singers, there were times where kit missed his cue, and his female vocalist did a great job at noticing straight away and covering for him. They also had sung the wrong lyrics at time but again did a great job with carrying on. The solo for the song needed work as it was not the best and could have done with more rehearsal. There was also the point of there were no backing vocals for the line"supermassive black hole" which had the song feeling a little empty where you know it should have more. In conclusion they all did a great job with this song and did a wonderful job at hiding their mistakes and carrying on, this is the mark of a professional on stage.

ED1A Pod 5:

I'm not sure what the song was, and i'm not really sure about the rest of the band as this whole performance was about the singer. He came out of the gates straight away with being very so confident that he completely over-shadowed the other vocalist and the band. It was too much and he needed to calm down. There was another vocalist on stage but she was completely over-shadowed and just stood at the back while the male vocalist was off stage headbanging before running back on and doing more of the same. As far as I remember the instrumentation was okay but i can't say for sure, due to the vocalist being so over the top you focused on nothing else. Confidence is good, but over-confidence like this over-shadows the band.
