The Sound of Silence comparison (Original/Full Band)

I'm going to be comparing the two versions of the song, writing a short summary of both versions and which one I prefer. Finally I will discuss which version I believe will be the best version for commercial reasons. Original: The original version of the song was released in October 1964 and features just an acoustic guitar along with vocals. The song starts with the acoustic guitar intro before the vocals come in with the first line (hello darkness my old friend). It's haunting vocals lead the song with the acoustic guitar in the background. As there are no other instruments in this version it adds to the lonely haunting sound the song had intended. Full Band: After the album was a commercial failure the duo broke up. a year or two later the song started getting airplay across parts of america so the songs producer decided to record electrical instrumentation of the song and did not inform the duo. The new version featured drums, electric guitar and bass guitar. These changes made the song a little more upbeat to listen to due to the drums, while 'filling in the gaps' of the emptiness of the original. Personal Preference and which is more commercially viable: For me I prefer the full band version due to the original. The main reason I prefer it is why I believe this version is the more commercially viable option. The original is a very dark and depressing piece of music, and for the general audience listening nobody wants to listen to something during their day that will put them in a sad/negative mood. However the vocal melody is very catchy, and with adding more instrumentation to the song made it more upbeat and positive to listen to. This is why I believe it is the better choice for commercial audiences.
