Review of Christmas Gig, My perfomance, The bands performance, and response to feedback given to mys
How i felt my performance went:
2 points on what went well and why
I was really happy with my performace, not just down to my playing, but down to how much better my stage presence had improved. From comparing the practice gig to the christmas one, it is miles better this time around. I can watch back my performance and see that i was clearly having fun and getting into the music we were playing, instead of just standing on stage playing a song.
The 2nd thing i was very happy with was how quickly i tuned up my guitar, and swapped guitars if need be. This is vital into making sure that we can start the next song as fast as possible, and within seconds i was tuned for the next song, ready to go without unneeded faffing about wasting the audiences time.
One thing to improve:
The one main thing i want to improve for my own personal performance is learning to play standing up a lot more. there wasn't anything in our setlist that i couldn't play to a high level, but due to not practicing certain arpegios and solo's stood up, my hand wasn't use to making the stretch standing. As a result certain parts came off a bit sloppy and i hit quite a few bum notes during certain parts which i really let myself down on.
How I feel our bands performance went:
2 Points that went well and why:
I feel our band performed extrememly well together. Our timing was one thing i was very proud of. We made sure to add in pauses to our songs to give the audience a little something extra to draw there attention. We also added in a jump to our performance of 'you wanna know' before the last chorus, which we managed to pull off all in time!
Secondly i'm most proud of our creativity as a group, our original song is something i'm very proud of, and knowing how we all contributed to it and worked on it makes it a lot more meaningful to me. I really felt as if we all on the same wave length and we all knew what kind of sound we wanted to create. This showed in our pod sessions, and even on my first day playing with them, and this is what made playing with all of the band such a pleasure.
2 Things that challenged us as a band:
I felt our main challenge as a band was really against ourselves at times, and what i mean is that before our practice gig we spent a lot of pod sessions being too easily distracted from practicing our songs and spent a lot of time not being very productive. This became a problem when we had our practice gig and we all knew we should have nailed every song we played, but we didn't and it showed through. Especially as we could be seen looking at eachother for directions on certain parts, when we should know what we are playing, however we became slightly out of sync at times playing the wrong parts at the wrong time. This was mainly on Limp Bizkit's Rolling.
Another challenge for us i felt was overcoming a track phil gave us which was 'Animals' by muse. This was a purely technical track, with a 5/4 time signature which threw us all off a little at first. The song has some technical parts for guitars which myself and millie really had to work hard on, the same for vocals for nina, durms for jerome, and bass for nathan. Along with learning all of our parts, it was learning to play the song together which also took work due to the time signature throwing myself out more than once for my guitar part. However we spent a lot of time on rehearsing this track, and that is really how we overcame this obstacle. It was all about getting our heads down and practicing.
1 Thing I would change if i could do it again For me personally, the main thing i would like to go back and change would be to practice more stood up, or ever practicing on stage more. It's one thing to practice in our pods sat down, and another to perform a song onstage to a live audience. I feel had we done this more we all would have been much better off for it, and our playing would have been even tighter.
Response to feeback of my performance.:
As of this writing i have not yet heard the feeback for myself, but will update when i hear back.
