Studio recording summary
In this blog i will be summarising my experience recording our track in the studio and what i have learned.
The very first thing we did in the studio a few weeks ago was record the drums. While the drums were being recorded, myself and the rest of the band were in the control room, learning how to adjust the settings on the mixing board for the drums, and how to adjust them on the computer. With this being our first session of recording an instrument for our track, we also were shown how to cut parts of the recording up, and adjust them if we needed to make a change. Once we had finished recording the drums, we had the backbone of the song recorded, and had learned some basic knowledge along the way.
About a week after recording the drum track and adjusting it where needed, we then began recording both guitars and bass guitar parts. For my part I headed into the recording room with my guitar. I grabbed a headset where I was given instructions where needed and I was cued on when to begin playing my part. I recorded my guitar in one take, as did nathan and millie, who recorded their parts simultaniously to me, however, they recorded in the mixing room while I used the recording room.
We later had to go back and adjust my guitar parts for the chorus as i had some wrong chords thrown into there. So we re-recorded the chorus and had that finished very quickly, then we went and recorded the two guitar solo's straight after.
Our next session we began cleaning up the track in terms re-adjusting some parts if they were slightly our of sync with the other parts. For example we re-adjusted the bass solo part due to not having enough time during the song to fit the solo in, so we had to cut it out.
Finally a week after that we recorded the vocals for the track. We spent our time in the mixing room watching the vocals being recorded. I spent time using a bit more of the board and making some slight adjustments for the vocals.
Just before half term we finished the backing vocals, and began doing some mixing on the track.
